The Bad Batch Reacción episodios 1, 2 y 3, temporada 3
/-/-/-/-/
🔴 ENGLISH: Hello to all the people reading this! I'm not usually very active on Tumblr, only sometimes when new chapters of my favorite series (The Bad Batch) come out. But with this third and final season of Bad Batch I have decided that I am going to upload here my reactions and what I write as I watch the new episodes.
I've seen some people do it and it's something I like, because it mainly reflects a lot of emotion, which may seem exaggerated but it's completely real.
Whenever I watch these kinds of things it's in English, but since my native language is Spanish it's easier for me to leave it in this language, as it comes to me at the moment (I watch the series in English so there may be a mix of these two languages).
That said, here are my 100% genuine and real reactions to the first three episodes of season 3 and finale of The Bad Batch:
-----
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
No me puedes empezar así!! 😭😭
¡¿Por qué lo primero que se escuche es el "when have we ever followed orders?" 😭😭
😭 Y Lula!!
"The last time we stormed an Imperial base without backup,…" Esa pausa. Su mirada… 😭😭😭 El TRAUMA (me refiero a mí, no a él xD)
"not all of us… made it out." 😭😭😭 Por qué Wrecker tiene que ser el más sensato? (no es la primera vez)
"Regs." 🥺
"Defective *and* effective." 😂🤣😭😂 Necesitaba que Wrecker me hiciera reír.
"She's… part of our squad." 😭 Sus caras 😭
¿Por qué ese tal Mox se ve tan guapo? 😳
"We've lost people too…" 😭
WTF is that? 😨😖
[no audible dialogue] 😭😭 Hunter tan enfocado en lo suyo que ni escucha lo emocionados que los demás cuentan su historia 😭
Wrecker le acaricia el pelo al chaval 🥺
"An island."
~ ~ ~
Ok, let's go!
"You got us this far. And we're not done yet." YEAAAH Así se habla Crosshair! 😭💪🏻
LANECESITAN VIVA 😭🥺
SIIIIUUUUU!! LO LOGRARON ¡Saltaron al hiperespacio!
Ayyy, quiero ver qué pasa con Cross y Omega después 😩

Breaking Down: Novoland: Pearl Eclipse BTS “Season of Love” Special Edition
Please take note that I have not read the novel so I don’t know what happens on the novel and this is just my take on what I see. If you have read the novel and already know what's going to happen and if I say something that is wrong, you can just laugh it off or we can talk about this in private (I don’t mind being spoiled of the ending as long as the ending that you are going to share with me is Hai Shi and Fang Jian Ming as end game LOL if not then.............*sigh*)
Before everything else I just need to let it out that this drama is now one of my favorites when it comes to production, set to costume aesthetics out of more than 80+ Chinese Dramas that I have watched.
This special edition BTS video features cast from Yang Mi (Fang Hai Shi), William Chan (Fang Jian Ming) , Xu Kai Cheng (Emperor Chu Zhong Xu), Chen Xiao Yun (Consort Shurong) to Wang Sen (Fang Zhouying), and the drama’s Executive Producer Gao Chen 高琛 , Costume Designer Fang Si Zhe, and Art Director Shang Chang Yong.
STORY
It has a unique worldview. This TV work is sad but beautiful love story that resonates more with female viewers. The love in this series is actually tormenting. We often use the word “tormenting”, tormenting love.
Gao Chen
Fun Fact: Gao Chen is the Executive Producer for Novoland: Pearl Eclipse as well as more of Yang Mi’s dramas like Storm Eye, Eternal Love and Eternal Love of Dream, to Les Interprestes back in 2016. He is a Producer for some of Jay Walk Studio dramas including Dilireba’s The Flames Daughter back in 2018.
This part is where I got confused, worried yet hopeful all at same time. The love story between Hai Shi and her Master Fang Jian Ming is really something that I look forward on the show. Then there were clips of Hai Shi and Fang Jian Ming meeting again, with her now sporting a woman’s outfit and seemingly avoiding or arguing with him? and from the teasers, OST and other snippets that I have seen, this couple will definitely have a fall out and I just hope that it won’t last too long.
“Tormenting” was repeatedly mentioned in the video and it was also the tittle for the other trailer for the show Tormenting Love Between Yang Mi & William Chan so I’m already preparing my heart for it but during Yang Mi’s interview she mentions
Its tormenting throughout the story but if you stick to the end, you’ll find sweet love. Don’t give up. That’s life
Yang Mi
So is it wrong for me to hope that they do have a happy ending when the Main Lead herself kind of insinuates that if you stick to the end, you’ll find sweet love? like does that not sound as a happy ending?
but this is where I kind of worried cause sweet love can mean different things and that it was not mention on which love? ‘cause there have been scenes of Hai Shi being involved with the Emperor and it seems like she will start something something with him and the synopsis on WeTV does not help at all
Hai Shi then becomes the personal guard of the emperor and she starts to be interested in him, and some misunderstandings rise between them. When the emperor finds out that Hai Shi is a girl, he starts having feelings for her. Hai Shi will have to face her own feelings towards Fang Zhu and the emperor.
WeTV
But then again promotions were of three couples, Hai Shi-Fang Jian Ming, the Emperor and his Consort Shurong and Zhou Ying and Zhe Liu.
COSTUME
The artistic style of this series is slightly nouveau. All the costumes are typically of Art Deco Style.
Fang Si Zhe
Fun Facts: Art Deco is known for appealing lines of nature, such as oriental cultural patterns and geometrics. It uses bright colors with strong contrast
We established effective communication with the designers since the beginning. So we follow the styles of the scenes.
Fang Si Zhe
The costumes were definitely really good on this drama and I have a huge trust on Fang Si Zhe’s taste and designs ever since I feel in love with Lu Yi in his absolutely gorgeous Jin Yi Wei uniforms on Under the Power (2019) who was played by Ren Jia Lun
Fun Facts: Fang Si Zhe is the costume designer for dramas like Scarlet Heart (2011), General and I (2017), Under the Power (2019), and the wonderful drama Love and Redemption (2020). His upcoming dramas are also to look forward too from Yang Zi and Cheng Yi’s Immortal Samsara (2022) and Zhang Ling He and Zhai Xiao We’s currently filming drama adaptation of Heaven’s Official’s Blessing (2022).
Every costume has its distinguished character.
Chen Xiao Yun
Every character definitely have their own styles and color schemes. and definitely one of my favorites are Hai Shi’s wardrobe.
I have more than one armor of all kinds of styles such as light ones, soft ones, and heavy ones. Anyway, I'm an "Armored Warrior" . Armor Warrior Fang Hai Shi
Yang Mi
I love the different shades and tones of blue that Hai Shi wears throughout the drama. From the almost black deep blue outfit that she wears working for the Jifeng Pavilion, her disguise when she was on the streets of the capital on episode 10, the blue-green outfit when she was caught on the rain on episode 11, the light blue inner clothing on her armor before she left for her first assignment, to her official uniform as the Staff Officer on Huangquan Pass.
PRODUCTION
Every little detail has been attended to. Hai Shi's sword is rather special. Her weapon adopts characters of her birthplace, and her background or geographical elements. That's how the sword is made. Its handle is inlaid with seashells to connect with her birthplace.
Shao Chang Yong
Fun Facts: Shao Chang Yong is the Art Director for a lot of really famous dramas. From Cheng Yi and Zhang Yu Xi’s historical drama Stand By Me (2021), Xu Kai’s Ancient Love Poetry (2021), Seven Tan and Wallace Chung’s The Sword and the Brocade (2021), another Cheng Yi Drama The Promise of Chang’An (2020), one my favorite Yang Mi dramas Legend of Fu Yao (2018), Nirvana on Fire 1 and 2 to Wallace Huo’s Love Me if You Dare back on 2015. Definitely a veteran Art Director who has a quite a knack for Historical dramas.
I really love the white sheath as well as the minor details on of Hai Shi sword. and then looking closely to her bow, (she is a gifted archer after all) the metal part of the bow are made of some kind of wave patterns (am I reaching? LOL)
We have built in all 200 or more scenes.
8 indoor Studios that cover 50,000 sqm. Over 200 scenes, most built for location shooting
Shao Chang Yong
Jifeng Pavilion is my favorite. A lot of wood elements are incorporated. Its simple but from the simple style, you can find elegance.
illiam Chan
Oh my! Same, my favorite location on the drama is the Jifeng Pavilion not only because this was the most used set on the early parts of the drama but because of how therapeutic it makes me feel when watching it.
There are all kinds of circulars, a bridge and a pond, trees and sand in the manor
Yang Mi
I think that I have seen a very similar set and correct me if I’m wrong but is this the same set for One and Only? Zhou Sheng Chen’s manor where Shi Yi lived most of her teen life? Cause it looks absolutely similar, although minor details are of course different but the layout is quite the same.
Fabric Office is built in our original design.
Gao Chen
It rose from the ground and its built as a real building. It has two stories, the ground floor is for weaving and embroidering desks. the second floor is for demonstration. the construction took two or three months.
Shao Chang Yong
CHOREOGRAPHY
There are a lot of action scenes
Yang Mi
During the shooting, it gave me a feeling that Fang Zhu is like a fairy. the visual effect is perfect. Most are long takes. I guess its because of the costume. because its fluttering when were fighting. the action part is quite different in the series.
William Chen
The most challenging part for me is to wear armors, to fight for real.
Yang Mi
Before each action scene, I was like "oh, Were gonna do action scenes today. So tired." but when it began, I couldn't have enough.
Xu Kai Cheng
I did my best to make each move perfect
Wang Sen
MESSAGE FROM THE PRODUCER
In every one's lifetime, as life unfolds, you change at certain stages. Every single role in this series has made the right choices, I think , or has done more than responsibilities require them to do. so its a leap. I hope the audience will love the series and every single role in it. Hope you can find from the series whatever you expect or whatever you like.

@themandilorian tagged me to answer fic questions! Thank youuuuuuuuuu, I love doing these. <3
how many works do you have on AO3?
Christ, 84 plus the Witcher crackfic I wrote under my incredibly subtle pseud.
what’s your total AO3 word count?
388,267, though I have a fic that'll probably be hitting 70k before it's all said and done that'll be going up ... before November? So 450k soon.
how many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Uh, depends how you count fandoms. Realistically, just one (Les Mis), but according to the fandoms view I also technically write for Untitled Goose Game and 19th Century CE France RPF. And Witcher.
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The View From Here (aka the balcony fic)
Define "Dating" (my second to oldest published fic ft Enjolras trying to take Grantaire out on dates and Grantaire in severe denial)
Early Mornings, Late Nights (the one where Grantaire wakes up early and Enjolras stays up late)
By the Glory of the Sun (amnesia AU ft horny Grantaire)
Rainy Days (kidfic ft calls from the principal and no kid)
do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I dooooooooo. <3 I spend so much time creating these fics and inventing details and backstories that never make it to the light of day, so I love having an excuse to talk more about the story and process. Also, I just love hearing from y'all? Of course I'll respond???
what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Ah, hm, several of those, angst was my specialty for a long while. It still sometimes is, but it was, too. Maybe The Lies We Tell Ourselves in the Dark? Prague is just sad the whole way through, same with Enjolras's Prayer and The Tempest. His Love Letter also starts more innocuous and gets sadder.
have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not including most responses to Empereur's Mercy (<3), not really?
I do know that one fic wasn't particularly well-received, but that's because it was a fic I wrote directly in response to someone being an asshole in a friend's comments and didn't include the context for privacy reasons. The fic was a very pointed response with lots of quotes from the other person, but without having seen the original conversation it can be easily interpretted as a general criticism, so I see why people weren't thrilled.
do you write smut? if so what kind?
Not really. There has been one glaring exception (What Greater Thing is There?), and another will be up soon-ish, but any smut I ever publish with either be exclusively to advance the plot or as pure crack.
have you ever had a fic stolen?
If you count those apps that were hosting peoples' fics without permission, yes, but otherwise no. I've been very lucky in that way.
have you ever had a fic translated?
HeavenlyGift translated Define "Dating" into Russian!!!
have you ever co-written a fic before?
It's not published yet, but thecandlesticksfromlesmis and I are about to hit three years (17 Sep, I think?) co-writing the fic that inspired All That's Left of Us!
what’s your all time favorite ship?
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... I dunno. I'm not sure. Valjean & Cosette (ampersand is platonic)? Courfius? Whatever those two funky lesbians in Sailor Moon have going on? Anne and Gilbert? Fantine and A Fucking Break?
what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I recently decided that I'm going to revisit my Giant Fic and make an effort to finish it even though my HCs don't align anymore!! Otherwise, I have a ton of ideas and kinda WiPs that could be finished but probably won't be simply by merit of there being so many. The one that comes to mind as being one that my HCs grew beyond before I could do more than outline it is the bodyswap fic with Combeferre and Grantaire that would have needed to be written from 3 PoVs and would have come out to probably ... 40k? A lot of effort for something I only ever had about 16k worth of interest in.
what are your writing strengths?
I think banter, pacing, and (when I choose to) worldbuilding.
what are your writing weaknesses?
Anything involving physical affection. @thepiecesofcait is always the first to point out the absolute hoops I don't even realize I put myself through to avoid writing physical contact. I've been trying to expand my horizons, but also consider: I could not.
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
INCREDIBLY contextual. I think if it's the PoV character, you write what they understand: if they do understand the language, write it in the language of the rest of the fic. If they don't, don't put words that they can't understand, just say "[person] says wome words in a language [PoVC] doesn't understand." If the other person is throwing in slang or swearing or something alongside the common language, it makes sense to put it in the other language verbatim, but that's mostly because it's one of those things where even if the PoV character can't understand the exact word, they can probably figure out the meaning with context clues.
Also, of course, a good pun may require language swapping. Gotta have it.
If you do feel compelled to keep it in the original language, though, I would say to figure out linked footnotes so the reader can see the meaning immediately if it's important enough to include. This often breaks up the flow of the story/conversation, though, so use it wisely.
what was the first fandom you wrote for?
Definitely Les Mis, although 7yo Shitposting loved daydreaming about a slumber party with all of the Disney princesses talking about palace life and their husbands and such. (I still have not seen Wreck It Ralph 2, but the trailer fulfilled every single childhood dream of mine.)
what’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
This is like asking my to choose a favorite child??????
I'm still extremely proud of en l'Année 2014, but as I started listing the other fics that still spark joy for me, it's occurring to me that my favorite fics are ones where I got to explore new character dynamics and relationships eg Courfius, Fantine & Marguerite, Valjean & Cosette, Ep & Gav, Javert's backstory in the Web Series AU, etc.
Tagging @starkey, @serinesaccade, @thelibrarina, @annabrolena, @lesbianjolllly, and anyone else who wants to do this!
#tag game#personal#writing#this was really really fun and I am so happy I got to do it#even if I did it instead of getting ready for work WHOOPS

please give me a rant on Cats ily btw
Hi nonnie! Omg ily too, thank you! And thank you for this ask, because ooohh boy do I have feelings about this adaptation.
First of all, I have a few disclaimers to make:
1. I love the actual musical. Yes, I know the show is very controversial--either you love it or you hate it--but I grew up on "Cats." I loved it, and the book of poems it's based on. So for those looking for a rant about the lack of plot or criticizing the show itself, this post isn't for you.
2. I'm not even going to address the CGI other than to say....that was a choice. I think the critics and social media have done plenty to criticize it, and I won't say more about that fever dream on 'shrooms.
3. There were two aspects of the movie I enjoyed: Jennifer Hudson singing "Memory" and Taylor Swift's appearance; though even the presence of my favorite artist of all time was not enough to redeem this movie.
And for you, nonnie, I rewatched both the trailer and The Rum Tum Tugger song. I will be sending you the bill for my therapy <3 ;)
Now, onto the good stuff.
I'll start with the casting. Something that a ton of movie musical adaptations do is stunt-cast big names to draw audiences because they're afraid that people won't want to see a movie musical. This happened in the "Les Miserables" movie, and while big-name choices like Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron-Cohen, and even Hugh Jackman had varying degrees of success, Russell Crowe as Javert was an obvious flop.
People like Jackman, Meryl Streep, and more recently James Corden have been cast in all these movie musicals because they're famous enough to get the average person into the theater. But, God, at what cost? I mean honestly, the only instance in which I think stunt casting truly worked was in the "Chicago" movie, which I firmly believe is the best movie musical adaptation ever made. (But that's another post.)
But please for the love of God can we start casting people with singing talent in musicals? Please? I'm begging.
Anyway, I digress. My point is: casting big names--even distinguished, incredible actors like Sir Ian McKellen and Idris Elba and Dame Judi Dench--will not save a movie musical from being shitty.
But here's probably my biggest problem: the acting itself.
Almost every single character was just the actor's personality projected into it. With the exception of the two previously unknown actors, it just felt like the characters were simply the actors dressed in costume and being a weird, exaggerated version of themselves. Little attention seemed to be paid to the actual characterization of the cats.
I think what hurt the most for me, personally, was Jason Derulo as Rum Tum Tugger. Oh, ouch, this one was painful because growing up I was a huge fan of the character. To be fair to Derulo, it is nearly impossible to follow in the footsteps of Terrence Mann. I mean, he played both Tugger and Javert in the original Broadway casts of Cats and Les Mis respectively--he's a musical theater giant.
But with Derulo, Tugger became...weaker and kinda one-dimensional. Rum Tum Tugger is flamboyant and funny, sort of like Elvis or Mick Jagger. He's larger than life, and Derulo just made him kinda sleazy without the high energy. I will say--his take on the iconic ending riff was good; he hit the right notes while still making it his own. Derulo is clearly talented, but I don't think he was well cast in this role.
Honestly, I think "Cats" should never have been adapted. Even if it pleased every die-hard fan of the show and did everything perfectly, it's so controversial and polarizing among theater fans that there's little chance that a non-theater fan is going to even see it--let alone enjoy it. The musical itself is kind of insane; it's an acquired taste, and it's not for everyone.
The moral of the story is, in my humble opinion, if you can't use the film genre and tools to enhance the story (or at least match the quality) then do a professional shot of it on stage, and either way, hire talented, diverse, unknown theater actors who can sing.
*sigh.* Alright, end of rant. Honestly, thank you nonnie this was cathartic. I think we can call it even on the therapy bill ;)
Send me an ask about Harry Potter, broadway/musicals, The West Wing, and/or Taylor Swift! Or just about life in general :).
Also, I have a playlist of my 99 most listened-to songs of the year so far. Pick a number 1--99 and send me an ask and I'll write you a fic based on it!

Nobody asked, but here’s my opinion on the CATS-trailer
So it’s been about three months since the CATS-trailer came out and somehow I thought NOW would be a good time to express my opinion on it. It’s quite controversial, but have you ever wanted to hear what a long-time hardcore CATS-fan who has been wanting a CATS-movie for years thinks about it? Probably not, but I went and made this very long post anyway.
1) Cast
Can’t spell ‘cats’ without ‘cast’ and there’s some big names in the list of actors they’ve released. Some are excellent choices, some are more… questionable.
Ian McKellen as Gus: Now this is something that makes me profoundly happy. Sir McKellen honestly seems perfect for the role, I mean, he practically IS Gus the Theatre Cat (maybe a little younger, and less feline). Great choice, looking forward to it. Judi Dench as Old Deuteronomy: Now here’s one of the more questionable ones. I love dame Dench, that isn’t the problem; it’s just that Old D is supposed to be a large, old, deep-voiced male cat, and dame Dench only fits one of those characteristics. Of course, they could very well change Old Deuteronomy to be the matriarch of the tribe rather than the patriarch, and that would probably be fine. I’m more worried about whether Old D’s singing parts (like The Ad-dressing of Cats) would work as well with a higher, female voice. And of course, they would have to do tweaks to the song Old Deuteronomy itself, and ‘Old Deuteronomy’s buried nine husbands’ doesn’t sound that great. Idris Elba as Macavity: Here’s one that I’m very interested in. I think they might give Macavity a larger role in the film, which is a big ‘heck yeah’ for me, and Elba seems like he could portray the Napoleon of Crime like the menacing figure it’s supposed to be very well. I look forward to both the portrayal, and what the writers do with him. Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella: There’s an old saying that goes: “a CATS-performance is only as good as its Grizabella”. Will this one be any good? I don’t know, we’ll have to see. The bits of Memory we have heard so far sound decent, although nothing will ever top Elaine Paige for me (as you will notice further in this post, I’m a bit of a ‘1998 video version’-purist) It should be noted that her design doesn’t look a whole lot like Grizabella, but that’s a different category. As long as she can deliver a Memory that almost makes me cry, then it’s fine. James Corden as Bustopher Jones: I know a lot of people hate Corden, but I personally don’t mind him. He’s okay in my opinion (I have never seen his late night show, so that might be the reason). Whether he’ll be able to pull of BJ’s almost opera-like singing is something we’ll have to wait and see, because I very much doubt he did the singing in One Chance himself. Taylor Swift as Bombalurina: I have no idea how this will turn out. She can certainly sing (something we can’t say for sure about a lot of other cast members) but I have no idea if she’ll make a good Bomba. Rebel Wilson as Jennyanydots: I’ll go ahead and say it: I wasn’t too fond of the Jennyanydots bits in the trailer. They were a bit too slapstick-y for my likes, and Rebel Wilson isn’t exactly known for subtle humor. Once again, we’ll see how it turns out. Jason Derulo as Rum Tum Tugger: Recent CATS-productions have been changing the classic RTT we know and love to some sort of rapper abomination, and many fans (including myself, as you may notice by that wording) don’t like it. It’s unclear which version the movie will be going for: Derulo certainly resembles the rapper version more, but what we saw in the trailer looks like neither, though slightly leaning towards the classic version. Let’s hope we don’t have to hear RTT rap his own song. Ray Winstone as Growltiger: Look, I have never seen or heard of Ray Winstone, but just seeing Growltiger on the cast list fills me with profound happiness, because that’s the one big complaint I have about my beloved 1998 video version: no Growltiger. Hurray for Growltiger’s return!
That’s the main ones I wanted to discuss. Munkustrap seems unimportant in the trailer (we’ll get to that in a bit) so I won’t discuss him. Victoria mainly just has to be a good dancer, and Francesca Hayward seems to be just that, so no further comment (though more on Victoria later).
2) Character design
Alright, let’s address the elephant in the room: the CGI. Yes, some of the characters make me very uncomfortable. Yes, I hope they change some things before the final product. But what I want to discuss is the designs themselves.
First of all: head shapes. Apart from some exceptions (Grizabella, Old D, Gus) all cats seem to have a human shape of head, and this bothers me. Usually, Cassandra stands out by her head shape, and so do Cori and Tanto, but here they all have that shape. Usually, RTT has a very wide head to go with his mane, but here? This is my biggest problem with RTT in this trailer (ignoring the threat of rapper-Tugger): the combination of his thin head, kind of small mane and completely different colors make him barely recognizable as Tugger. Many cats look very different: Old D, even ignoring the fact that it’s a woman now, has completely different colors. The same goes for Bombalurina. Maybe this is the ‘don’t you dare change anything’-fanboy side of me talking, but in cases where fur color is the only way to recognize a character, this is a big deal. Macavity also looks completely different, although cool. The hat looks be a bit weird on him though. Also Mistoffelees has black patches on his eyes, not sure how I feel about that.
Overall, the awkward CGI and many changes make character design one of the things I’m less happy about, but oh well.
3) Sets & backgrounds
I think the backgrounds look gorgeous, although some are very obviously CGI (here we are at the CGI again). But there’s one problem: CATS takes place on a junkyard. I know, obviously they would want to expand a little in the film and include more different settings, and I completely agree: I would’ve been disappointed if they hadn’t. The problem is that I haven’t seen a single junkyard in the trailer. We see streets, a theater, a fancy house, a square, a graveyard, a bar… but no junkyard. Some shots may look like they’re on a junkyard, but trust me: they’re either in the theater, graveyard, or the alley at the back of Bustopher’s favorite club. Again, this is basically me going ‘they changed something reeee’, but come on. It’s like if the Les Mis movie was set in Italy. Tom Hooper, do me a favor and include at least ONE scene on a junkyard.
4) Story
The musical is, much like Les Mis, 100% singing and talking with music accompaniment, and 0% regular dialogue. From the line said by Victoria at the end of the trailer, we know that they won’t do like Les Mis and completely sing the movie, and I’m perfectly fine with that. CATS’ story has always been a bit unclear for a casual patron who doesn’t know the lyrics and deep lore of the musical, so I’m glad they’re putting in some regular dialogue. If anything, it’ll give us a chance to see the Jellicles’ personalities better.
But speaking of Victoria: it seems like she and Mistoffelees will be the main characters in the movie. This is odd, but understandable. CATS doesn’t have a clear main character. You could say it’s Grizabella, but she’s only in a couple of scenes. You could say it’s Munkustrap, although he is regarded more as the narrator than the main character. However, the trailer has a disappointingly small amount of Munk, and his name is very low on the IMDB cast list. The same goes for Skimbleshanks, who I’m not sure if he’s in trailer at all (unless he’s the cat with the pants) and is even lower on the list than Munkustrap, plus there are no trains or train stations in the trailer. Odd.
Anyway, back to Misto and Vic. Normally, Victoria’s only role is performing a couple of amazing ballet routines, but that doesn’t seem to be case here. I personally would’ve picked Jemima over Victoria as a main character, but I guess her design isn’t as easily recognizable as Victoria’s (have I mentioned how many of the cats look pretty much the same in this version?)
Someone who also seems to have a much larger role is Bustopher. Normally he only appears during his own song, but here he seems to be a more general presence. We’ll see how that works out.
Anyway, if Munkustrap is reduced to just being the cat who sings about the Old Gumbie Cat and maybe Old Deuteronomy, I’ll be mad. (AND THEY BETTER NOT REMOVE HIS FIGHT OVER DEMETER WITH MACAVITY OR I’LL BE VERY MAD) Speaking of Demeter, she’s also very absent in the trailer and low on the cast list. Guess they made Bombalurina more prominent because they got a big name to play her.
5) Background characters (specifically Tumblebrutus)
As I said in the previous bit, it looks like many characters will be reduced to minor characters, so cats who already were background characters in the musical (like my boy Tumblebrutus) will probably have very little time to shine. I guess that’s inevitable, but I hope they at least make an effort to include the various background characters rather than replace them with generic OC’s. Luckily, I already recognized Pouncival in the background of one of the shots, so there’s hope. But if they don’t include my boy, my all-time favorite Jellicle, the best character in CATS, known as Tumblebrutus, then I’ll be even more mad than if they remove the Munk vs. Mac fight. He’s not on the IMDB list (unless he’s one of the ‘ensemble’ characters) but neither is Pounce and I definitely saw him so fingers crossed I can spot Tumbles when I watch this movie.
Conclusion
Am I excited for this movie? Heck yeah! Am I scared this movie might turn out shit? Heck yeah! There’s really no telling how good this will be (a lot depends on whether the final product has better CGI cats), but I think my viewing experience will be a mix of “Oh my god I’ve been waiting so long for a CATS movie oh look I recognize that character this is awesome oh here comes my favorite song I literally know this entire 2 hour musical by heart” and “Oh my god what is this RTT design where is Tumblebrutus why is there no junkyard why did they slightly alter this one lyric why isn’t this EXACTLY like the 1998 video version I love so much when I get home I’m just gonna watch that version again it’s much better anyway”.
Yours sincerely,
Ethan Livemere, certified CATS-expert and Tumblebrutus fanboy

MOVIE ASKS TAGGED BY @sayla-aris @bestnoncannonship this was weirdly hard because every movie ever just runs out of your head.
Favorite Movie: ugh.. this varies so much maybe the Avengers. Princess Bride. The Unknown.
Movie that Makes You Remember Your Childhood: Finding Nemo. My friends saw the trailer for this and we quoted the dialogue at each other for months and convinced our parents to take us all together to see it. That's a big one. Silent movies remind me of a specific summer hunting them down. The Mummy is also a big one. Road to El Dorado. And of course the first two Harry Potter movies.
Favorite Tom Hanks movie: The Green Mile. It's a GOOD movie and very sad.
Movie that Makes You Cry: I don't really cry at movies. I've always wanted to. Don't think i ever have.
Favorite 80s Movie: LABYRINTH HANDS DOWN
Favorite Comedy: this involves picking a Marx Brothers movie....probably A Night At The Opera. Ghostbusters is also a near perfect movie.
Favorite Courtroom Movie: I had to look up a list of Courtroom movies to see if I'd seen any. It counts "Extremely Wicked Shockingly Evil and Vile" as a courtroom movie so i guess I'll count it too. That was good.
Favorite war movie: FINALLY AN EASY ONE! It's Stalag 17, a movie about prisoners of war in WW2. But it's pretty light with an ensemble cast and some genuinely funny scenes about their daily life ....until it takes a very dark turn in the end as they try to escape and root out a snitch....damn now I want to watch it. It also gave me my love for the names Manfredi and Johnson. It's one of those movies I never owned but will watch whenever it's on TCM
Favorite Animated Movie: Road to El Dorado and Spirited Away
Favorite Horror Movie: I am very fond of The Others. Ann showed me the Conjuring tho and that scared the bejeesus out of me.
Most Overrated Movie: pretty much every rom com. I never understood any romance movies.
Favorite Gangster Movie: another easy one!! Angels With Dirty Faces!! This movie gave me nightmares about the electric chair when I first saw it. White Heat is also good.
Movie You Can Watch Over and Over: interview with the vampire!!
Movie With The Best Soundtrack: I'm gonna be cliche and say Shrek has an incredible soundtrack it did NOT need to go that hard. In terms of original score Star Wars.
Most Embarrassing Movie You Actually Like: I tend to think I have pretty good taste in films. Maybe Lost Boys? I'm not sure if that movie is good but it is FUN and I still want to do a photo shoot based on that. Also @bestnoncannonship shames me constantly for liking Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. But I do!!! Oh and it's an Embarrassing thing in academic circles because it's so inaccurate and everyone likes to be like "stupid comic book movie" but I LOVE 300 and I think it's completely accurate to the spirit of the events and it's the movie that the Spartans would have made about themselves.
Favorite Christmas Movie: I hate Christmas. I hate Christmas movies. I can't even think of a Christmas movie. Fine Nightmare Before Christmas there you go.
Favorite Sequel: The Mummy Returns. And @bestnoncannonship makes a great case for Thor Ragnarok
Favorite Sci-fi: I guess Serenity gets to count.
Favorite Movie Musical: well... You've really got to divide this into eras. The classic era, the post Chicago revival and the trend I'm noticing now towards more accuracy. But really... I guess it's Les Mis. The actors aren't bad singers, it looks amazing, most of the music is intact and they added a bunch of stuff from the book just to make us mizzies happy!
Favorite Period Film: Sophia Coppola's Marie-Antoinette! Pretty costumes, lush visuals, very little plot and just a lovely meander through Versailles with no hint of the Bad Things Happening Outside It. Sets a mood beautifully

Architecture is suffering a crisis of confidence. More and more mainstream figures in the field are admitting that the profession has lost its way. As I previously mentioned, Frank Gehry, the world’s most famous architect, recently said that “98% of everything that is built and designed today is pure sh*t. There’s no sense of design, no respect for humanity or for anything else.” Architectural thought-leaders seconded and thirded him. And he’s since been fourthed by another.
…
And now The New York Times, the ultimate arbiter of elite opinion, recently published an op-ed that declared, “For too long, our profession [architecture] has flatly dismissed the general public’s take on our work, even as we talk about making that work more relevant with worthy ideas like sustainability, smart growth and ‘resilience planning.’” The authors are not kooks on the fringe but architect Steven Bingler and Martin C. Pedersen, former executive editor of Metropolis magazine, both of them very much in the establishment.
The authors observe that self-congratulatory, insulated architects are “increasingly incapable … of creating artful, harmonious work that resonates with a broad swath of the general population, the very people we are, at least theoretically, meant to serve.” Bingler and Pedersen note that this has been a problem for over forty years (my emphasis), and that things are even worse today.
As a case in point, they mention the 2007 “Make It Right” charity program, founded by amateur architect and furniture designer Brad Pitt. The program invited firms, most of them avant-garde, to design housing for poor New Orleanians whose homes were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The architecture world was exhilarated: The initiative was to be a showcase for how the best contemporary design could improve lives.
The predictable result was weird, sometimes discomforting houses of non-native motley futuristic design that have virtually no relation to each other or the beloved historic architecture of the city. A story in The New Republic called the 90-some houses a waste of money and a distracting sideshow: The homes were expensive to build ($400,000 on average) and the high-tech fabrication has made them expensive to fix; mold has grown on the untested experimental materials, and the eco-wood decks and stairs are already rotting. The neighborhoods are wastelands—failures of urban planning that isolate residents from social networks and public services.
…
While most of the architectural establishment has responded to the op-ed with noticeable silence, Mark Lamster, architecture critic for the Dallas Morning News, did bravely publish a post on Facebook in which he began by quoting the opinion piece: “We’ve taught generations of architects to speak out as artists, but we haven’t taught them how to listen.” Lamster then commented, “super-smart nyt op-ed from Martin Pedersen and steven bingler [sic].”
What is most telling, however, is the vitriolic response the op-ed triggered in Aaron Betsky. Called “one of the 21st century’s architectural power brokers,” Betsky is the former head of the Cincinnati Art Museum, and was director of the 2008 Venice International Architecture Biennale, the most important architecture show in the world. An architectural priest and patrician, he is to the profession what The New York Times is to the chattering classes: a voice of the high-status quo. Indeed, he writes for Architect, the official magazine of the AIA.
Betsky rained down on Bingler and Pedersen with ridicule and scorn: Their piece was “so pointless and riddled with clichés as to beggar comprehension.” He summarized their position: “we have three of the standard criticisms of buildings designed by architects: first, they are ugly according to what the piece’s authors perceive as some sort of widely-held community standard (or at least according to some 88-year old ladies); second, they are built without consultation; third they don’t work.”
Yet Betsky then admitted, “All those critiques might be true.” They are irrelevant, he claims, since architecture must be about experimentation and the shock of the new. (Why this should be the case he does not say.) And sometimes designers must stretch technology to the breaking (or leaking) point: “The fact that buildings look strange to some people, and that roofs sometimes leak, is part and parcel of the research and development aspect of the design discipline.” Ever brave, he is willing to let others suffer for his art.
At no point did Betsky consider the actual human beings, the unwilling guinea pigs who live in the houses. He implicitly says of the poor residents: Do their roofs leak? Let them buy buckets. And as for sickness-inducing mold, there’s Obamacare for that. Betsky also does not consider what a leaky roof means to people whose prior homes were destroyed by water. The architects, having completed their noble experiments, effectively say like the arrogant King Louis XV of France: “Après moi, le deluge” [After me, the flood]. No wonder architects have an image problem.
Betsky also would not appear to care that some of the new houses look like they have already been damaged by a flood. As he wrote in May, “Buildings under decay are much sexier than finished ones, perhaps because they remind us of our own mortality.” It logically follows that the “decaying” Katrina houses are simulated ruin porn, a pleasing mix of sex and death. He had previously said that the decay of New Orleans even prior to the hurricane could seem “elegant” to some. One of his favorite architects, the Dutch firm MVRDV, proposed a Make It Right house that looked like a trailer broken in two, and another one that looked like a house piled on top of a house.
…
Modernist architecture, like Modern art, has tended to be a revolt against bourgeois taste (and values): If granny, abuelita, or bubbe is for it, they’re against it. But if bourgeois taste is bad—all that chintz and those lace curtains, those cushy sofas, that flag flown from the front porch—just imagine what architects think of the working class and poor. If the architects had their way, elevator music in New Orleans public housing would be screeching Stockhausen, not native Louis Armstrong or Fats Domino. Modernists have no room for harmony, rhythm, or soul; they are high-culture elitists, not multiculturalists who celebrate class and ethnic diversity.
Many leading 20th-century architects, including Philip Johnson and Mies van der Rohe, were openly disdainful of the public’s preferences. On occasion they evinced subtle and overt racism. In 1913, in one of the most influential essays in the history of Modernist architecture, “Ornament and Crime,” [PDF] the Austrian architect Adolf Loos declared that modern man (read: white northern Europeans) must go beyond what “any Negro” could achieve in design, and strip away all that is superfluous, all that is morally and spiritually polluted. It is Papuans and other primitives who, like innocent children, ornament themselves with tattoos. Loos’ race has superseded them: “the modern man who tattoos himself is either a criminal or a degenerate.” The same held for ornament in architecture. (To this day, architects—who continue to believe they are the vanguard of civilization’s progress—find ornament retrograde. Yet ordinary people stubbornly continue to adorn themselves with cosmetics, jewelry, and, yes, tattoos.)
In the 1920s, during the time he was a member of the French Fascist party, the seminal architect Le Corbusier said he was disgusted by the “zone of odours, [a] terrible and suffocating zone comparable to a field of gypsies crammed in their caravans amidst disorder and improvisation.” He also chimed in with Loos: “Decoration is of a sensorial and elementary order, as is color, and is suited to simple races, peasants, and savages… The peasant loves ornament and decorates his walls.”
…
Betsky, to his credit, doesn’t pretend that architects should even try to make outreach. Showing little sympathy for democracy, he says that appeals to the public are “mystical.” The people—the 99%—do not deserve a seat at the table. Yet Betsky would have us believe that he and the architecture he supports are “progressive.”

saw the Cats trailer. have a lot feelings. most of them negative. a little too uncanny valley for me, though I don’t know how they could have avoided that other than... pure animation instead of live action + cgi, I guess? still not into most of the cast even though I lot a like of them individually. feels too much like “we tried to cram as many stars as possible into the most popular nonsense musical ever and you’ll LIKE it.” yeah the show itself is weird but the trailer was just off-putting.
that said, I heard a few complaints from music-type people about Jennifer Hudson’s singing in the trailer but I thought she sounded fine. maybe not my favorite version but not the worst, and actually better than a lot of her performances (the obvious exception being Dreamgirls).
I dunno. I haven’t watched a lot of the more recent movie musicals (still haven’t seen Les Mis because it’s probably my least favorite of the mega-popular musicals so why would I fucking bother with the movie lmao) but there’s a part of me that’s tempted to see this to see if it’s actually okay or if it really is as much of a trainwreck as I think it’ll be.
#tbd#it's also the only alw show i can stand to listen to multiple songs from in a row#poto is mostly good songs but sometimes it's a little much to take in at once for me#and the rest of his shows are like... maybe one decent song and the rest is terrible

I was tagged by @fluffyblue-multifandommess Thanks!!!
Marvel or D.C?: Setting aside the fuckery of Secret Empire*, I like both pretty equally! I’ve never read any of the comics though, all my opinions are based on movies and TV. I just binged Young Justice so I’m on a bit of a DC kick at the moment but I go back and forth. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be my reward for having free time again now my show’s over
Favourite of the bronze trio (Neville, Ginny, Luna)?: Neville probably but that is a hard fucking call. I mostly choose him because I’m in love with his character development
Favourite of the fantastic quartet (Newt, Tina, Jacob, Queenie)?: Newt is like a teddy bear I just want to hug him
Otp?: Which fandom, man? Klance, Marichat, Cecilos, Starco, Stormpilot, Korrasami, shall I keep going? Hell I even still dive into Merthur fanfic occasionally because it can still leave me a sobbing mess
Notp?: Mmmmmmm I don’t... particularly have one? I mean I have ones that are squicky to me, incest and pedophilia and such, but I just stay away from that, live and let live. I never did get the chemistry of Sterek but I don’t have anything against it, really
Brotp?: Look the Garrison trio (Lance, Hunk, Pidge) are my love forever
Hinny or Linny?: Hinny is a power couple
The Patil twins or the Weasley twins?: Weasley twins, is that even a question?
Dursleys or Malfoys?: Malfoys
Favourite Harry Potter book?: Goblet of Fire
Favourite Harry Potter movie?: Prisoner of Azkaban
Favourite musical?: Uhhhhhhhh not to be a stereotype but probably Les Mis
Tea or Coffee: I drink them for different reasons? Like I mean I guess tea in general but they’re not really interchangeable for me
Favourite movie: Oof maybe Memento but I don’t really have one. I mean how do I compare it to something like Jurassic Park or Star Wars?
Favourite band/artist: Sonata Arctica
Favourite book series: Deep down Lord of the Rings will always have my soul
Favourite stand alone book: The Book Thief is the answer I usually give but God don’t ask me this question. Bleak House and Pnin are also contenders
Favourite YouTuber: Nostalgia Critic/Doug Walker
Celebrity crush: I’m generally inclined to answer Natalie Dormer but I just watched the new Wonder Woman trailer and Gal Gadot could break my neck and I’d think it was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen
Fictional death you’re not over: FRED FUCKING WEASLEY
Favourite TV show: Ughhhhh I don’t know??? Are we counting cartoons??? Anime??? Okay okay for live action right now the answer is probably Series of Unfortunate Events (or Stranger Things, if we’re not counting adaptations); for Western cartoons it’s Avatar the Last Airbender; for anime, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Book you loved as a child: Mara, Daughter of the Nile (I still love this book, for the record, it’s still like one of my top ten favorite books)
Cats or dogs: PUPPYYYYYYYYYY
*Just to be clear, we shouldn’t be setting aside everything Marvel is doing that is absolutely horrifying with Secret Empire, but not everything Marvel is doing is horrifying so the artists working on things like Agents of Shield still deserve fair comparison and not to be dragged down by the likes of Ni//ck Sp//encer
Ehhhhhh I’m not really up to tagging people right now, but if you see this, you can consider yourself tagged! :D I’m bad at picking favorites lol but hopefully you find this amusing at least

Ok nobody answered BUT my bottom ranked one is Sweeter Than Fiction. I'm sorry. I hate it. It rubs me the wrong way. Lyrically it's good and I think with a rearranged melody and done acoustically it could be something but I just have my issues with it (the change to the chorus sounds like a cheaply made dumb kids show theme song?! But I mean that's production.. there's songs that I HATE on the album with all the production *cough* Clean *cough* but LOVE AND WOULD DIE FOR acoustically okay so take this all with a grain of salt). So. Last night I was feeling like crap and in a lot of pain so we went YouTube surfing for music and Taylor things to distract with. At one point, to tease me, my partner was like "hey how about, what's that one song you really love? The one from a movie it starts with like an s-" (I'm like screaming NO DON'T YOU DARE at this point).... so then I'm like "You know what! You don't understand!" And I explained why like what I said above and then I was like "okay let me just SHOW you okay bc-" so I go to STF to play which it plays just over a picture of like the movie cover. So we're listening and he's like "What even is this movie, have we seen it? I've never even heard of it," and I was like I don't know! I tried to look it up once but it was like some weird unavailable British movie." So then I was like "NOW, listen to this" *plays Safe and Sound* and I'm like "you have to agree when it comes to Taylor and movie songs there is NO comparison, not to mention Eyes Open," and he totally agreed. Well so then. We watched Tay's covers of Riptide and Drops of Jupiter. And then, you know how it goes on YouTube- I was like hmm, covers; I wonder if there's any good covers of Country Roads. Watched that and a few others. Then I was like well as long as I'm here, I want to watch two of my all time favorite covers which are also all time best moments on Britain's Got Talent EVER (does anyone see where this is going yet); so first I played when Susan Boyle SLAYED Les Mis' "I Dreamed A Dream," which I've watched a million times in all it's forms and is kind of an anthem for me but ANYWAYS THEN I watched my OTHER favorite; Paul Potts singing Nessun Dorma, which gives me SUCH chills every time like oh my GOD that song, right? But okay. DUDE. That's one of my all time favorite YouTube videos. Watched it last night. Cried to it.
Just now: I thought to myself hmm, I should see again if that weird "One Chance" movie is available. So I look. There it pops up and I see James Corden's face,
...and I'm like, oh this must be wrong, this looks like some kind of another British talent show... then I saw it had a trailer. Hmmm. Okay let's watch the trailer..
OH MY FUCKING GOD WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME IT WAS THAT MOVIE THE STORY ABOUT PAUL POTTS I FREAKING REMEMBER NOW SEEING THE TRAILER IN THE THEATRE WHAT THE FLYING FUCK HOW DID I NEVER KNOW THIS CONNECTION MY BRAIN IS JUST I'M
So I mean I'm gonna see if I can find a way to see it free and like... just... oh my god
OH MY GOD LIFE IS CRAZY
#life is so weird#the coincidence#storytime#Feb 6#but yes I'm still on the other bullshit I'll be back#gotta find change for food
